Dentists have observed that while the non-smokers have had prefect healing in the proper timings, smokers have longer healing times and even no healing at all. Dental implants on non-smokers achieved better osseointegration over the smokers who have little to show to for the time frame given in the study. It shows that in the long run, smoking may actually prevent wounds from healing thus can mean the difference between a the success or failure of a dental procedure. Alternative methods of preventing smoking while healing is in progress is recommended for patients recovering from operations in the mouth and may even result in that person quitting which would be better for overall health.
