Have you seen a photo of a relative who had braces a long time ago? If yes, then you may have seen a picture of a person with a mouth full of metal.

Dental Braces today still have metal, but they are less noticeable. You can even get some clear braces or the one that has the same color as your teeth. Not only that, there are also some braces that can go behind your teeth where no one can see them!

The wires today are much smaller and better. It is now made of a space-age material that can straighten our teeth easier and faster. We also have assorted colors of elastics to choose from!

For an orthodontist to identify the specific needs of the patient, he/she must evaluate your mouth completely. The evaluation includes the impression of your teeth and models will be created. These are useful for your orthodontist and will remind you how your teeth exactly looked like before the correction. Images of your face, smile and teeth is also needed. You will also need X-rays of the head and teeth and you must bring with you your present medical/dental health

There are instances wherein a bracket pops off especially on your first few months due to a number of reasons. Always keep in mind that your brackets are just glued on, which means that they can be removed easily later on. Once the glue bond is broken, the bracket will then come off. Call the dental office and set for an appointment for re-gluing if this happens to you. Some dental clinics are asking for extra fee on this. It is normal for the brackets to pop off from time to time. Having the brackets glued is not an easy task and it might take you minutes before it sticks.

The manufacturers said that instead of using ligatures, the brackets are the ones who control the arch wire in its proper place.

We already have several companies that produce self-ligating brackets and one of the most popular brands in the market is the Damon bracket, which was created by Dr. Dwight Damon. The latest version they released is the Damon3, which is made up of stainless steel and clear material. Other companies include SmartClips and In-Ovation.

What are Elastics? Why do we have to wear them 24/7? These are special rubber bands that are being used along with the braces that helps produce a gradual movement of the teeth.

Is it Ok to take it off once in a while? It is best to keep the elastics all the time. You can remove it though when needed like when you brush your teeth, when you?ll be eating your meals or when changing the elastics.

For first timers, you will feel discomfort. But when you wear the elastics as instructed by the orthodontist, you will get used to it in a few days. If you are disciplined in wearing the elastics, there is a big possibility for having the treatment in a short time.

Here?s the bad news for citrus lovers: Citrus fruits are not braces-friendly.

I?m not talking about the eating part in here. Yes, you can eat them since these fruits but then later on, you?ll realize that the little pieces are stucked in every bracket of your braces and your lips gets dry too.

Just make sure that you rinse your mouth a lot of times and floss your teeth after eating the fruits because the little pieces are just hiding behind your brackets. Beware!

The invisalign braces are but another popular type of dental brace that is offered for those who want to divert from the traditional metal braces. This type is made of clear aligners which are virtually invisible when used. These aligners are the ones which work to push the teeth to their proper position through a gentle force. The invisalign braces are often recommended for mild and moderate teeth problems, but there are also some experts who employ it to treat even the most chronic conditions. For those who are considering the invisalign braces for mild and moderate teeth crooking or crowding, expect the braces cost to run in a range similar to that of the traditional braces. For the more severe conditions, the braces cost may involve 20 to 50 percent increase than that of the metal braces.

In today’s trendy world, several alternatives are made available to braces. One of the most well-known is the clear braces, which basically are composed of translucent brackets that are crafted from monocrystalline sapphire. This option is now increasing favored by hundreds of children and adults knowing that the clear braces are highly potent for straightening their teeth. It also allows them to smile so wide without having to worry of the brace’s distracting appearance, as that of the traditional metal braces.

Being so common and a bit trendy, the clear braces cost is now surging. It is slightly higher than those that are crafted from the traditional metals. You may expect to find the invisalign braces cost starting from $200 up. This is specifically true for those that are designed to be worn on the six front teeth.

The braces cost varies greatly depending on a number of factors. One of the most significant is the location. As you may know, orthodontists are now operating anywhere worldwide. They come from major cities to the minor cities in different countries, and whether you believe or not, each country has its own charge for dental care, so does for the braces. From the location, the braces cost may also vary according to the orthodontist you are considering. There are many experts today who offer braces at a pretty expensive price, while others offer some discounts and privileges for their patients. It is for this also that choosing the right orthodontist is critical in finding the right brace. The cost of braces may also differ to the extent of adjustment made to a particular corrective, as well as the type of brace recommended.
